Sunday, March 29, 2009 - In a nail bitter of a finish the 7th seeds John Fox and Shelley Stewart-Rolle captured the covetted title of 2009 Bahamas National Champion and will represent the Bahamas at the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup scheduled for November, 2009.

Sunday, March 1, 2009 - The Top 24 men and 16 women hit the lanes last night in the hunt for the top eight spots for Sunday's finals.

In the men's division Clarence "Mr. Consistency" Wallace brought his best game securing the top seed for the finals with a 1537 set and 220 high game. He finished with 6167 total pins and a 192.72 average. Dropping to second was Al Jermaine Bethel with a 1361 set and 212 high game finishing with 6159 total pins and a 192.47 average. In third was Lindberg Cooper with a 1503 set and 207 high game finishing with 6138 total pins and a 191.81 average. Dropping to fourth was Sonith Lockhart with a 1361 set and 202 high game finishing with 6032 total pins and a 188.50 average.

In the women's division Justina Sturrup held her pace securing the top seed for the finals with a 1421 set and 202 high game. she finished with 5687 total pins and a 177.72 average. In second was Marie Sealy with a 1317 set and 186 high game finishing with 5549 total pins and a 173.41 average. In third was Janice Hoyte with a 1289 set and 222 high game finishing with 5257 total pins and a 164.28 average. In fourth was Elizabeth "Betty" Graham with a 1391 set and 193 high game finishing with 5242 total pins and a 163.81 average.

2008 National Champion Takes Lead in Men's Division
Monday, February 23, 2009 - I was just informed that at the 10:00 a.m. squad this morning the 2008 National Champion Al Jermaine Bethel posted the high set for the tournament with a 1334 set and 268 high game to take the lead in the men's division. With 2456 total pins (204.67 Avg) he seems well on his way to defending his title but we will have to wait and see.

Saturday, February 21, 2009 - With the tournament now at the halfway point and ninety percent of the bowlers with at least 6 games completed, we have new leaders in both the men's and women's divisions.

In the men's division Lindberg Cooper leads with 2393 pins and a 242 high game (199.42 Avg) followed by Ray Higgs maintaining second place with 2359 pins and a 247 high game (196.58 Avg). Dropping to third place is Valentino Daxon with 2303 pins and a 220 high game (191.92 Avg).

Sealy Maintains Lead - Daxon Takes Lead in Men's Division
Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - Marie Sealy maintains lead in the the women's division while Valentino Daxon takes the lead for the men after last nights competition.

In the men's division in first place is Valentino Daxon with a 1172 set and 220 high game followed by Ronald Dames with a 1104 set and 219 high game. In third place is Philip Bowe with a 1100 set and 236 high game which was the high game for the men for the night and the tournament.
In the women's division in first place is the 2007 National Champion, Marie Sealy who maintains her lead. Taking second place is Myrna Gaitor with a 983 set and 185 high game dropping Tanisha Tynes to third place.

Championship Declared Open
Sunday, February 15, 2009 - The 2009 National Bowling Championship Tournament was declared open today at 5:00 p.m. during the opening ceremony at the Water World Bowling Center.
Present at the ceremony was the 2008 National Team Members including the 2008 Tournament Champions, Mr. Al Jermaine Bethel and Ms. Justina Sturrup who gave the bowlers oath.
This years honorees were revealed, Mr. Bradley Gibbs & Mr. David Capron, life long contributors to the sport of bowling in the Bahamas. Check back soon on our Hall of Fame page for more on our honorees.
To declare the tournament open the ceremonial first ball was thrown by one of our junior bowlers, Jordon Leary.
This years tournament promises to an exciting one as in the last week the field of bowlers has grown to 74, 48 men and 26 women and bowlers averages are higher than they have ever been.
Sunday, March 15, 2009 - In addition to the top prize bowler had the opportunity to capture their respective Divisional Title.

Saturday, February 28, 2009 - Qualifying sqauds were completed this morning with Janice Hoyte out of New Providence moving into third place with 3968 total pins and a 216 high game (165.33 Avg). Justina Sturrup and Marie Sealy continue to hold first and second place, respectively.

Lockhart Moves into Second in Men's Division
Friday, February 27, 2009 - With only three squads left of match play, the race to make the cut of the top 24 men and 16 women tightens. After the final squad on Saturday morning the top 24/16 will roll an addition eight games on Saturday night in a fight for the top eight men and women who will make the step ladder finals on Sunday.

At the conclusion of last nights squad there were not much changes in the the standing with the exception of Sonnith Lockhart out of Abaco who improved his position by moving into second with 4671 total pins and a 243 high game (194.63 Avg) dropping Lindberg Cooper to third with 4635 total pins and a 242 high game (193.13 Avg). Al Jermaine Bethel maintains his lead in first place with 3597 total pins and a 268 high game (199.83 Avg). Lockhart and Cooper have completed ther 24 games but Bethel still has six to go.
In the women's division Justina Sturrup maintains her lead with 4266 total pins and a 234 high game (177.75 Avg) followed by Marie Sealy in second with 4232 total pins and a 224 high game (176.33 Avg). Ena Cooper maintains third with 3928 total pins and a 229 high game (163.67 Avg).

Justina Sturrup took the lead in the women's division with 3161 total pins and a 234 high game (175.61 Avg) followed by Marie Sealy dropping to second place with 3146 total pins and a 217 high game (174.78 Avg). Ena Cooper holds on to third place with 3008 total pins and a 229 high game (167.11 Avg).

Monday, February 23, 2009 - It was a battle last night for the top spot in the women's division as the 2008 National Champion took to the lanes for her first six games of the tournament.

In the women's division Marie Sealy retakes the lead with 3146 total pins and a 217 high game (174.78 Avg) followed by the 2008 National Champion Justina Sturrup moving into second with 1047 total pins and a 234 high game (174.50 Avg) which was also the high game for the night and tournament. Dropping to third was Ena Cooper with 2088 total pins and a 229 high game (174.00 Avg).
In the men's division it was a quite night with no changes in the top spots.
Tournament Kicks into High Gear
Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - Although many of the "Big Guns" hit the lanes last night for thier first six games, no one was able to move the current leaders, Daxon and Sealy from that top spot.
It was a difference situation for second and third spots. In the men's division moving into second place is Raymond Higgs with a 1137 set and 226 high game and moving into third place is Leslie Seymour with a 1129 set and 211 high game.
In the women's division in second place is Shelley Stewart-Rolle with a 989 set and 196 high game. In third place is Ena Cooper with a 984 set and 176 high game.
Jeff Forbes registered the high game of the night and the tournament of 269 finishing with a 1069 set.
Almira and Sealy Take an Early Lead
Sunday, February 15, 2009 - Twelve bowlers took to the lanes today for their first 6 of 24 games to kick off the tournament.

In the mens division it was Bernardo Almira taking the lead with a 1161 set and 217 high game followed by Quentin Russell with a 1090 set and 198 high game. In third place was Cedric Beckles with a 1073 set and 221 high game which was the high game for the men for the night.
In the womens division it was the 2007 National Champion, Marie Sealy taking the lead with a 996 set and 216 high game which was the high game for the women for the night. In second was Tanisha Tynes with a 838 set and 148 high game and in third place was Antonia Marshall with a 815 set and 157 high game.

Tournament Kicks Off in One Week
Sunday, February 8, 2009 - There are only seven days left before the opening of the 2009 National Bowling Championship Tournament on Sunday, February 15 at the Water World Bowling Facility.
A total of 55 bowlers, 36 men and 19 women have registered thus far who will vie for the prestigious titles of Bahamas Mens and Womens Champion.
The tournament will run for two weeks with morning and evening qualifying blocks. Each bowler will bowl four blocks of six games for a total of twenty-four games.
The top twenty-four men and women will roll an additional eight games on Saturday, February 28 with the top eight men and women qualifying for the Master Round on Sunday, February 29 where the Champions will be crowned.
