2009 National Team Selected

Monday, August 3, 2009 - At a recent press conference the 2009 Bahamas National Team was announced.  Bahamas Federation President and Coach Monique Leary had this to say about the journey thus far,

"It's been really hard but we are doing our best and we are going to get teams to all the tournaments.  It's been a long year and we have conducted a lot of training.  We've even held training at a skills center in Margate, Florida on synthetic lanes and the bowlers have worked very hard to try and be on par with the rest of the world.  It's going to be quite interesting.  It's a good feeling to see the level at which we are bowling now.  We have a few rookies who have been training over the last couple of years who have truly elevated their game and it's wonderful to see the technique they're perfecting.  Bowling is coming on strong!"

2009 National Team Interviewed

During the recent press conference we had the opportunity to capture team members thoughts and comments about being selected to the team, their bowling game and the national team in general.

Here is what they had to say:

"It will be a learning experience, to get the exposure of participating in the different tournaments.  I have had to change my technique and my equipment along with attending various clinics in order to bring my game to the next level."
Shelley Stewart-Rolle, 2009 National Champion

"Going away to represent your country is a special feeling.  I have had it for a number of years and it continues and I'm looking forward to it."
Clarence Wallace, 2007 National Champion

"This is my second time being on the National Team.  I'm really excited about it.  With my win at the National Tournament in March I didn't know I had it in me to win but now that it has happened I'm really excited about bowling and I've been putting in a lot of practice time to bring my game up to where it needs to be.  Regarding the team selected, I think we've got a good mix.  Coaches Monique Leary and David Capron have spent a lot of time critiquing all the bowlers to get the right mix and I think this year we are in good shape to win at one of the tournament."
John Fox, 2009 National Champion

More Team Thoughts & Comments

"My mental game is my weakest point at this time so basically I'm working on that.  For my physical game I think I've got that down pat."

Justina Sturrup, 2008 National Champion

"I must say I've improved much since last year.  That was my first time on the team and to get out there and bowl on an international level was a great experience.  Over the past year I've made tremendous improvements learning the fundamentals so I'm sure in the next month or so you will be hearing a lot about me!"

Naobi Hanna

"This year we are really excited about the tournaments that we will be attending.  I will be attending the Tournament of the Americas in Orlando in August and we have a team that is going into Puerto Rico and one that's going over to Malaysia so we are excited about the opportunity and I truly feel that we will do extremely well."

Ronald Dames
